Descriptions of my (personally invented) melody types
- non-musical: Not at all musical, like the drumming of a woodpecker or the cawing of a crow
- simple rhythmic: Simple melody with repeated notes but not the same tone, e.g. Firecrest
- stereotype melodic: A predictable melody, maybe with some variations, like the chaffinch's
- improvised melodic: An unpredictable melody like the blackbird's
- sings 30 seconds or longer: A song most easily categorized by its lasting 20 seconds or more, often with mimicry and short variable elements, e.g. song of the sedge warbler
- sings 5-19 seconds: A song most easily categorized by its medium length of 5-19 seconds, e.g. the European serin
- one note: Melody with one repeated note
- two notes: Melody with two repeated notes
